Overend Methodist Mission

Overend Methodist Mission is an all-inclusive, outward-looking church that takes seriously issues of social responsibility. Our congregation, made up of children, young people and adults of all ages places worship at the heart of all its activities.

Today our morning service was led by Rev. Peter Bradley and included a celebration of Holy Communion. We also had the joy of marking Enid’s ‘special’ birthday, complete with lots of lovely cake! 🎂 Finally, a big shout out to Amirali and David for their great support with the tech team today. Our children and young people took a very thoughtful approach to celebrating Harvest last Sunday. We used a packet of 12 chocolate bars to help us think about how God’s gifts of food could be shared more fairly in the world. We began by thinking about how sharing often happens in the world today: Emma was in charge, so she took 6 chocolate bars for herself, gave 4 to Paul – her ‘deputy’, and that left 1each for the children. We thought that wasn’t fair, and that God would want Emma to be a fairer sharer. So, we started again. Everyone took it in turns to choose a chocolate bar. We all got 3 bars each. This seemed much fairer. But then we thought we should not keep them all for ourselves, but share them with our families. But one of the children came from a family of four….and Emma and Angus only needed one each….so it was agreed by everyone that a Crunchie should be handed over! This made for perfect sharing. Then David said, "Should we say a prayer to God to say thank you for the chocolate bars?". We all agreed that we should. So, David said this prayer: "Dear God, thank you for giving us these chocolate bars, for us to enjoy eating. Amen". See MoreSee Less

To complete our Harvest Festival weekend, our Sunday service this morning was led by Christine Perry. We lifted our voices with gusto as we sang the much-loved traditional harvest hymns. The Sunday School children continued their celebrations with colouring activities and thoughtful discussions about the importance of sharing. A warm thank you goes to Sheila and Joyce for providing the beautiful display of flowers that brightened our church and added to the festive spirit. We were also blessed to receive generous food donations, which will go to support the Black Country Food Bank. See MoreSee Less
